What is a LiveSchool Learning Walk?

  • A LiveSchool Learning Walk is a brief classroom visit that specifically tracks how teachers are utilizing LiveSchool to provide points, rewards, and/or house points to their students.

  • A Learning Walk is NOT an evaluation. It helps both the school and the LiveSchool Team obtain a “snapshot” of the school culture systems in action.

Who participates in a LiveSchool Learning Walk?

  • A LiveSchool Learning Walk is usually led by a school leader, with other educators, school and district leaders, and LiveSchool Team Members in attendance.

What is the LiveSchool Learning Walk process?

Before the LiveSchool Learning Walk: 10 minutes

  • Assemble members of the LiveSchool Learning Walk Team. Identify the Learning Focus for the Walk, which classrooms will be visited, and why these classrooms have been selected. Have a short discussion on any evidence that will be identified to support the focus.

  • The Learning Focus might include how and when teachers are awarding points to students, how and when staff members are giving rewards for good behavior, and/or what house points and school-wide behavior competitions look like in action.

During the LiveSchool Learning Walk: 60 minutes (5 x 10 + 2)

  • Visit 5 classrooms for 10 minutes each. Have team members enter the classrooms ensuring a student-centered focus (i.e., with minimal disruptions possible).

  • Take notes about focus areas and meet together for a short (2-minute) debriefing after leaving each classroom.

After the LiveSchool Learning Walk: 20 minutes

  • Assemble members of the LiveSchool Learning Walk Team. Have everyone share their observations providing some evidence they collected and an overview of what they saw.

  • Optionally: Have school leaders share findings with the staff for discussion in an upcoming staff meeting(s).

What questions are considered during a Learning Walk?

Each LiveSchool Learning Walk Team member will be presented with a reflection sheet on which they can take notes about:

  • What commonalities emerged during the Learning Walk

  • What did you expect to see that you didn’t see during the Learning Walk?

  • Identify any new insights or understandings that resulted from the Learning Walk

  • Questions, Wonderings, or Surprises

People participating in Learning Walks will specifically be looking for:

  • How and when teachers are awarding points to students

  • How and when staff members are giving rewards for good behavior

  • What house points and school-wide behavior competitions look like in action
