House Points Overview Screen

See how your competition is going. Track standings on the chart, celebrate top students with Shoutouts, and learn how the two time period pickers work.

Written by Hannah Kelly

The Overview is where you go when you want to actually look at how the competition is going. It's the chart-and-standings view, useful for admins planning a spirit week, teachers checking in on their class's contribution, or anyone who just wants to know who's in the lead this month.

👤 Who can see this: Everyone sees the same Overview, including admins, site leaders, and teachers.

Opening it

Click House Points in the left sidebar. The Overview is the default tab.

What you're looking at

Two main things, top to bottom:

Section

What it shows

Points over time

A cumulative line chart of each house's points across the period you've selected. The legend shows house names, colors, and running totals.

House Shoutouts

A card for each house listing its top-performing or most-improved students for the period you pick.

Changing the time period

The chart and the Shoutouts section each have their own time period picker, so you can look at the whole year on the chart while focusing the Shoutouts on this week.

For the chart

Click the calendar icon at the top of the page to change what the chart covers. Your options are:

  • Today

  • Yesterday

  • This Week

  • This Month

  • Year to Date (the default, going back to the competition start date)

  • Custom range (pick any start and end date)

Only the chart updates when you change this picker.

For the Shoutouts

In the Shoutouts section header, click the underlined period name next to "Shoutouts for" to choose a different range:

  • Weekly: This Week, Last Week, 2 weeks ago, 3 weeks ago, or 4 weeks ago

  • Monthly: This Month, Last Month, or any of the three months before that

Only the Shoutouts cards update when you change this picker.

House Shoutouts

Shoutouts are your "moment of celebration." Each house gets its own card listing the students who stood out for that house during the period you've picked. There are two modes you can toggle between:

Mode

What each card shows

Top Performer

The students who earned the most points during the period

Most Improved

The students whose point totals grew the most compared to the previous period

Each card also has a copy icon in the top-right. Click it to grab the list of standout students for that house, ready to paste into a school-wide announcement, newsletter, or social post.

Teachers vs. admins

Everyone sees the same data, but you'll probably use it differently:

  • Teachers tend to use the Overview to see how their students are contributing. For example: "my class is 40% of House Phoenix's kids, and Phoenix is in the lead this week."

  • Admins use it for the big picture: tracking the whole competition, spotting trends, and planning when to put the Competition Dashboard up.

A note on Balanced Scoring

If your admin has turned on Balanced Scoring, the Overview shows balanced scores, so smaller houses aren't disadvantaged. If you want to see raw points instead, you can find that on the Houses > Fairness tab.
