Creating your Store Menu
The first step to building a successful School Store is to create a menu of rewards for your students. To get started, go to Rewards > School Menu in the left-hand menu. You'll find all the tools you need to organize categories, manage your store's inventory, and make rewards available to students.
The School Menu is the store for your whole school. If you want a store of your own rewards for just your students, use Rewards > My Menu instead. The steps below work the same way in both places.
At the top of the page you'll see Active and Archived tabs. Active is where you build and manage the rewards students can see. Archived holds rewards you've retired but haven't deleted.
Creating Rewards
On the School Menu page, you will see a button to create your first reward:
Click "Create a Reward."
Name the Reward: Give your reward a clear and exciting name (e.g., "Lunch with a Teacher" or "LiveSchool T-shirt").
Add a Photo: Uploading a picture helps students visualize the reward.
Set the Price: Enter the number of points a student needs to redeem for this reward.
Add a Description: Provide a short but detailed description of what the student will receive.
Identify the inventory: Enter an amount if there is a limited number of this Reward. If there is no limitation, keep the unlimited box checked.
If there is a set inventory amount, you will be defaulted as the person who will receive low stock and out of stock emails for this reward. If you would like to add or change this, click on the word "you" that is in blue under the Inventory field to make updates.
Once created, each reward appears as a card showing its point cost and remaining inventory, or Unlimited if you left the box checked.
For details on how to manage the quantity and availability of your rewards, see our article on managing inventory.
Adding Categories & Ordering
When you create your first reward, a category will automatically be created and named "School Store". You can keep this name or easily change it by clicking on Edit in the top right corner of the category box.
Categories are a great way to keep your rewards organized. To add another category, click New Category in the top right of the page, give it a name (e.g., "Experiences," "Items"), and then click New Reward within that category to start adding rewards. Category names are limited to 32 characters.
When creating a category, you can also decide if it should be available to all students, specific grades, or specific Rosters. Each category will show who it is available to, such as All Students, next to its name.
You can reorder your categories by clicking Reorder, dragging them into your preferred order, and clicking Save.
Your Categories are visible when checking out students on the Charge Rewards tab to help with organization. They do not appear in the student app.
Turning On Student Shopping
Once you've finished creating your rewards, you're ready to enable the store so students can start shopping.
At the top right of the School Menu page, you'll see a Student Shopping option with the option to open "Edit Settings". Here you can choose to enable Student Shopping, whether or not it is open at all times or on a schedule, and also whether or not families can help students make purchases.
If you enable Student Shopping, then the banner will turn green and read Student Shopping is on, with a note about hours.
That's it. Students will now be able to purchase rewards directly from the Student App. If you ever need to close the store, click the same toggle to switch it back off. When self-checkout is off, students can still browse your rewards but will not be able to make a purchase.
Self-checkout is set per store, so the School Menu and each teacher's My Menu are switched on and off independently.
