Turn any device with a camera into a self check-in station. Students scan their own ID badge at the door and earn a point, such as Present. A daily limit makes sure each student is only counted once, even if your school runs kiosks on more than one device. The kiosk goes full screen, and only staff can exit it with a PIN.
Who can do this: Any staff member can launch a kiosk from the Points screen. Students need a QR badge, either a printed badge or a digital badge in the student app.
Set Up the Kiosk
Go to your Points screen and click ID Scan at the top.
Click Rapid Record Mode.
Under "When I scan a student, I want to…", click Award a Point.
Pick the point students get for checking in, such as Present.
Turn on Limit per student per day and keep Times per day at 1. This way each student is recorded once a day, even across devices.
Next to Kiosk mode, click Set up and enter a 4-digit Exit PIN. This is the same PIN as your Hall Pass Kiosk. If you already have a PIN saved, you will see Launch Kiosk right away, and you can click Change to pick a new PIN.
Click Launch Kiosk.
The kiosk opens full screen. If it ever leaves full screen, click Full screen at the bottom of the kiosk.
What Students See
The kiosk says Scan your ID to check in, with the name of the point below it. Students hold their badge up to the camera, and a message tells them their check-in worked. You can also use a handheld scanner with the kiosk.
If a student scans again after reaching the daily limit, the kiosk lets them know they are already recorded for today, and no extra point is given. If a badge does not match a student, the kiosk shows Badge not recognized. See a staff member.
Exit the Kiosk
Click Exit at the bottom of the kiosk.
Enter your 4-digit exit PIN.
After 3 wrong PINs in a row, Exit is locked for 30 seconds.
FAQ
Does the daily limit work across more than one device?
Yes. The limit counts every check-in for that point today, no matter which device it was scanned on.
Can I let students check in more than once a day?
Yes. Use the plus button next to Times per day to raise the limit, or turn off Limit per student per day to remove it.
I forgot the exit PIN.
The kiosk can only be closed with the PIN. Your exit PIN is the same as your Hall Pass Kiosk PIN, so try that one first.
My students don't have badges yet.
You can print badges for your students, or turn on digital badges so students can show a QR code from the student app. See Printing QR Badges or Barcodes.
