Translating LiveSchool into Other Languages

Families can read the LiveSchool portal in 24 languages, and staff can set a family's language for them.

Written by Laura Litton

LiveSchool can show the family portal in 24 languages. Families choose the language they read, and LiveSchool translates the page for them. There is nothing to install and no browser setting to change.

How families choose their language

There are three moments a family can set this:

  1. While signing up. After a family enters their signup code, LiveSchool asks Choose your language and lists every language in its own script. The rest of signup then continues in the language they picked.

  2. From the globe button. In the family portal, a round globe button sits in the bottom right corner. Tapping it opens the language list. Once a family answers, the button goes away, so it never gets in the way afterward.

  3. From their profile. Go to Profile, then Preferred Language. This is the way to change it later, or to switch back to English.

The language is saved to the family's account, not just their device. A parent who picks Spanish on a phone will also see Spanish when they sign in on a laptop.

What gets translated

Everything the family reads on the page, including the parts your school wrote. Behavior names, reward titles, and teacher comments are all translated along with the LiveSchool buttons and headings.

Arabic, Urdu, and Persian read right to left, and the whole page flips to match.

Recap emails are not translated yet. They are sent in English, even when a family has chosen another language for the portal.

Setting a family's language for them

The family who most needs a translated portal is often the least able to navigate an English one to find the language button. If you already know a family reads another language, you can set it for them:

  1. Go to Setup > Students and click the student.

  2. Find the Manage Access card.

  3. Open the menu next to the family member's account and choose Edit Language.

The portal will open in that language the next time they sign in.

Access Sheets in other languages

Access Sheets can be printed in the language families read at home. Go to Students & Families, then Access Sheets, and use the Language picker before you print. See Streamlining Parent and Guardian Account Setup for more on sending codes home.

More for families

We also have flyers, letters, and slides to share with families, many of them already translated. See Resources for Families.

If a family needs a language you do not see, reach out to support@liveschoolinc.com and we will do our best to help.
