What Students and Families See in LiveSchool

Students and families use the same portal. Here is what each of them sees, and what differs between them.

Written by Laura Litton

Students and families sign in to the same LiveSchool portal and see nearly the same thing. This guide walks through what each of them gets, so you can answer their questions and help them find their way around.

Where they sign in

Both students and families sign in at my.liveschoolapp.com, or in the LiveSchool Next app. If your school uses Clever or ClassLink, students can sign in through those instead.

Anyone who has not signed up yet needs the Access Code from the student's Access Sheet. One code covers the student and every family member linked to them. See Streamlining Family Account Setup for how to get those out.

Home

Home greets them by name and shows how the student is doing: Merits, Ratio, top behavior, recent activity, and any rewards bought.

Demerits appear only if your school chooses to show them. If your school keeps them hidden, Home shows Merits without them.

Activity

Activity is the running history: points earned, teacher comments, and rewards purchased. It opens on Year to Date, and the time period and filters can both be changed.

Teacher comments show up here, so the note that came with a point is visible, not just the number.

Store and Purchases

The Store shows what a student can buy with their points, along with their balance. Students buy rewards themselves, right in the app. They no longer have to ask a teacher to make the purchase for them.

The Purchases tab lists what has already been claimed. Families see this tab too, so they can follow what their student spent points on.

Houses and Hall Passes

If your school uses House Points, students in a house can see how their house is doing.

If your school uses Hall Passes, students can request a pass from that screen, and the menu shows an alert dot while a pass is active. Families do not get this screen. A student's passes appear in Activity instead.

Profiles, passwords, and multiple children

My Profile is where anyone updates their details or changes their password, under the Password tab.

Families get a My Students tab listing the students they are linked to. A family member with more than one child can switch between them, and the whole portal follows the child they picked.

Families can also add another student themselves with Connect a Profile, using that student's Access Code.

Students cannot connect a family member themselves. Staff manage who is linked to a student from Setup > Students, on the Manage Access card.

Reading LiveSchool in another language

Families choose their own language, and LiveSchool translates the portal for them. Students do not choose their own. Staff set it for them from Setup > Students, on the Manage Access card. See Translating LiveSchool into Other Languages.

Other ways families keep up

Signing in is not the only option. Families can also:
